Purpose One: To Finish the Transgression Home

Galatians 2:21 KJV
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Romans 10:4 KJV
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Transgression, as used in Daniel 9:24 deals with transgressing the law. Since Christ fulfilled the law by dying on the cross, He, therefore, finished the transgression to all that believe. In fact, the only way transgression can be finished in ones life is by believing.

This works hand in hand with making an end of sins. If you really understood the chapter on righteousness and sin, then it should be easy to grasp why this purpose has also been fulfilled. If there is no sin, there is no transgression of the law. Once saved, you have ceased from sin in the spirit; then there can be no more transgression. In addition, if we are saved, we no longer live by the law but by faith. We know what to do because God's laws have been written on our hearts.

In fact, until we are unable to sin, transgression will not be finished. Since Dispensationalist believe sin continues in the Millennial Kingdom, and Israelites will be living in the flesh during the Millennium and even have babies, then the finishing of transgression must be spiritual in nature, or not finished until the end of the Millennium when there will no longer be flesh.

According to Hal Lindsey (The Rapture pg 143) the millennial kingdom will have the following aspects. "They will bear Children...(Isaiah 65:20-23; Jeremiah 23:3-6; 30-19-20)" and "there will be disobedience and discipline. Even though the Millennial Kingdom begins with only believers, there will be unbelievers among their offspring (Zechariah 14:16-19)."

"Sin will be suppressed and controlled, but not totally eliminated, for as the Millennium continues and children are born to the regenerate parents who enter it, the 'rod of iron' aspect of Messiah's rule will become more evident (Ps. 2:9; Rev. 2:27; 12:5; 19:15). Rare cases of open rebellion will be dealt with suddenly and supernaturally (Isa. 11:3-5; 65:20). Thus, Christ will 'finish [literally 'restrain'] the transgression' on planet Earth in answer to the prayers of His people and 'bring in everlasting righteousness' to the glory of His Father." Pg. 130 (JOHN C. WHITCOMB - Daniel)

When it comes to the law, you either live by it, or by faith. Only if you live under the law is it possible for you to be a transgressor. Since those who believe live by faith, we can no longer transgress the law, and neither can the Israel of God.
Romans 5:13 KJV
(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

The law was instituted out of necessity because of sin, for without the law no one would know what sin is. Today, just like in the Old Testament, we are to follow God's commandments. Such as loving the Lord with all your heart and loving your neighbors as yourself. However, if we simply relied on these works to save us, we would be amiss. It is not by works that we are saved, but solely by God's grace through Faith in Christ. (cf. Ephesians 2:8-9) All who live by the works of the law are not saved!
Romans 3:20 KJV
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

The law was only in place to show us right and wrong. It was not the end unto righteousness; it was temporary until we could be sanctified through Christ's righteousness who fulfilled all of its requirements.
Galatians 3:19 KJV
Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

God gave the promise to Abraham of an eternal inheritance, for all his descendants who had faith in God. However, all mankind transgressed the law, which included Israel, and for this reason, Christ had to die.
Hebrews 9:15 KJV
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament [covenant], that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament [covenant], they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

Romans 4:14-16 KJV
For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: 15Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. 16Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

There are many Christian theologians that state that God can not bring wrath on His people. So if the law brings wrath (verse 15), that would mean that the law would be dead, as it states, "where there is no law there is no transgression."
Micah 7:18 KJV
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

Psalm 19:12-13 KJV
Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults. 13Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

Romans 8:4 KJV
Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults. 13Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

Once again, Transgression can only occur in the flesh. When we put on Christ we die to our flesh and live in the spirit through Christ. "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." (Galatians 2:20) Since Christ did not and can not transgress the law, in the spirit, neither can we transgress the law. This is why in the spirit we are without sin. Whether we sin or transgress the law comes down to whether we are living by our flesh or by faith. I praise God that I am no longer a transgressor of the law, because Christ's righteousness is accounted to me.
